Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy
Couples Counseling
How do I know if we need couples counseling?
Many couples wait until they're in crisis before seeking help. Couples counseling can also be helpful when communication feels difficult, trust has been damaged, intimacy has declined, parenting differences create conflict, or you simply feel disconnected from one another. Seeking support early often makes change easier.
What if my partner doesn't want to come?
It is common for one partner to feel hesitant. Sometimes beginning with an individual consultation can help clarify concerns and reduce anxiety. Even one motivated partner can begin creating healthier relationship patterns.
Do you work with high-conflict couples?
Yes. I work with couples experiencing frequent arguments, emotional disconnection, affairs, communication breakdowns, and long-standing relationship patterns. The goal is not simply to stop fighting, but to understand what keeps the cycle going and help both partners feel heard.
Can couples counseling help after infidelity?
Yes. Many couples successfully rebuild trust after an affair. Healing takes time, honesty, accountability, and a willingness from both partners to engage in the process.
Individual Therapy
What issues do you help with?
I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, trauma, grief, codependency, life transitions, low self-esteem, and stress. Many clients are successful professionals who appear to function well externally while struggling internally.
What types of therapy do you use?
Treatment is individualized and may include Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), EMDR, mindfulness, attachment-based therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed interventions, and trauma-informed approaches.
Trauma & EMDR
What is EMDR therapy?
EMDR is an evidence-based therapy designed to help the brain process traumatic or distressing experiences so they no longer carry the same emotional intensity. Many clients experience relief from symptoms that have persisted for years.
Is EMDR only for PTSD?
No. EMDR can also help with anxiety, childhood experiences, relationship trauma, grief, panic, negative self-beliefs, and other distressing life events.
Sex and Intimacy
Can therapy help improve intimacy?
Yes. Emotional closeness and physical intimacy are deeply connected. Therapy can help couples improve communication, rebuild trust, address desire differences, and create greater emotional and physical connection.
